Maps

Looking at maps can be a good way to start discovering the stories hidden in landscapes and place names. Making maps is a way of sharing what we know, and what we feel about a place.

The oldest map that shows the Kinross Parish area is a beautiful sketch made on the 25th October 1642, by map maker James Gordon.

The story blocks map was created by Esther Kent as an interactve conversation-starter. It's a way of exploring changes in Kinross-shire and some of the stories that connect to specific places on and around the Loch. Find out more about it here.

We have started creating an interactive story map, using Google Maps. The map shows the 'important places' people identified when answering the Your Stories community questionnaire. If you have a story, piece of history, memory or idea connected to a specific location, contact us here.

Maps can be competely personal, and record memories, thoughts or ideas as well as places. Artists have used maps to represent ideas or values, as well as telling stories about themselves. Find some interesting examples here

Here's an example of a personal map made for the story blocks map. What would you include on your own map of where you live?
